Women have been vastly left out of cultural and historical documentation. This lack of documentation can make it easy for women’s current struggles to be dismissed. I don’t want to be dismissed and I don’t want to be silenced.
When I speak about being silenced, it is not only about lack of representation, but how we are branded for simply being. During this work many people have challenged my intentions. Does it need to be so angry? Why is this material so aggressive? Like a word, anger can be a tool. The project ZIJ uses my own labour to individually brand this word into several materials, merging identities, stories, and material in a new archive of a brand. Through this labour I can lay claim to my own space, my own work, my own brand.
